Automatic Identity verification in Certum

Asseco has introduced a new method of identity verification in Certum security certificates. Client identification can now be done automatically, in real time, using artificial intelligence mechanisms. The service is available in the process of issuing SSL, eMail ID (S/MIME) and Code Signing certificates.

The brand new and fully digital identification process provides an alternative to verifying documents delivered via email or post (although this form is still available to customers).

Automatic identity verification allows automatic and unattended real-time verification of identity documents such as ID cards, passports, driver’s licenses. In addition, the new service allows verification not only of the document, but also of the document holder, all thanks to a simple “facial recognition” solution that compares the user’s face with the face on the identity document using biometric recognition technology.

Confirmation of identity is a key element in the process of issuance of digital and trusted certificates. In order for a Certification Authority to issue a certificate with personal information to an end customer, it is required to meticulously verify the identity of the customer. In this process, Certification Authorities perform a role of a trust anchor on the Internet, since the trust of browsers in web pages or documents is based, among others, on the certificates they issue. That is why the quality of this process is so important – identity verification is supposed to both unequivocally confirm the identity of the certificate user and exclude the possibility of falsifying data or phishing for a certificate using stolen data – said Anna Sikorska, Product Manager at the Security and Trust Services Department, Asseco Data Systems

Auto-identification not only allows for convenient and instant identity verification, but also protects against attempts to forge documents by unauthorized persons and protects against identity theft. Currently, such services are implemented by the largest financial institutions, public administration and fintech companies.

Asseco has made this service available in all Certum security certificates: SSL, eMail ID (S/MIME) and Code Signing. The solution was developed in cooperation with Ariadnext and is available to users from 180 countries.
